Chapter 1 is the 1st chapter of Kodocha as a whole, as well as the first chapter of the first book.
Summary[]
Sana Kurata (an 11 year old TV Star) has trouble at school because of a boy named Akito Hayama. Things escalate after Sana discusses these troubles during a live TV interview.
Plot[]
Sana Kurata wakes up from a nightmare, her mother scolds her for yelling in her sleep, and is then driven to school by her chauffeur/manager Rei Sagami. During the ride, Sana complains about her ongoing problems at school (which was also the cause of her nightmare) revolving around a school bully Akito Hayama. Arriving in class, many of the students are causing problems, making their teacher cry. Sana is angered by situation, and ditches school to go to a cafe. Later in the day, Sana has a televised interview and complains about Akito/her school on air. The next day at school is tense thanks to the interview, but Akito isn't interested in the revenge many of the other students expect he'd be interested in. He instead wants to terrorize the teacher using water guns filled with ink, when another teacher tries to intervene, Akito says something that indicates to Sana he's blackmailing the teacher. The students who aren't keen on playing along with Akito's games insult him, especially Mami Suzuki, who calls him a "demon child". This prompts Akito and his cohorts to try and drown her in a pond. Tsuyoshi Ohki asks Sana for help (which surprises Sana, since Tsuyoshi is Akito's best friend) with this, they save Mami, and this infuriates Sana to a new level and she slaps him. Sana tries having a conversation with Akito, but he refuses, briefly chokes her to scare her, and leaves, ending the chapter.

On Assistants: "I don't use an assistant very much – or help anyone else as an assistant. I get distracted, too easily! When I have a friend over, and we're supposed to work, I just want to play. So I worked on my own for a long time. But for book 4 of Kodocha, my schedule got out of control! I thought my sister, Kaori, how to add tones and got her to help me out. It took her an hour to do what I could do in minutes, so I was worried – but she's improved a lot. It's not a lot of work, but she's been a big help. Thanks sis! ❤ I'm trying to get her to do the same work as I do in the future. How long will it take?"
