Chapter 13 is the 13th chapter of Kodocha, as well as the third chapter of the third book.
Summary[]
Sana feels better about her mom's book after a shockingly good conversation with Akito. Sana gets cast in a commercial alongside fellow child actor Naozumi Kamura, who whispers that he knows her secret.
Plot[]
Sana rejects Akito's idea, saying that she's not a good enough actor to keep up such an elaborate act. He still says he can tell somethings up, and Sana is shocked by that, thinking about how no one's asked about her problems before. She starts crying, and explains how her mom is writing a book about her, and that it's making her worry that everything will change, or that her mom doesn't love her. Akito is confused without more context, but he assures her that he thinks everything will be okay, that her mom loves her, and that nothing could be irreparably damaged. He goes on to express his gratitude for Sana's help with his family, and expresses that whats great about her is that she doesn't even realize her positive impact, she just does things to help people. Sana is shocked to see Akito be so open, and knows it's hard for him. Akito gets out that he's there for her if she needs help, or a shoulder to cry on. Sana thanks him, and Akito smiles, shocking Sana (who's only ever seen him smirk or sneer). In response, Sana wants to see another smile, and Akito blushes, making Sana even more enthusiastic. Akito runs away, and Sana starts chasing him, and this leads to them running up the cliff they had fallen from.
They realize everyone left the bonfire,so they head back to the dorms. They get scolded by the teachers, but Sana is so relieved by everything Akito told her that she doesn't mind. On the bus home, the girls ask Sana what's going on between she and Akito, and Sana affirms that they're friends.
Ariving home, Sana is in a good mood. Summer break starts, but Sana keeps busy with a theater play she's performing in, as well as other lessons (swimming, dancing, etc). At a swimming lesson, the girls freak out when Sana tells them matter of factly that she'll be working on a commercial with Naozumi Kamura, who unbeknownst to Sana is a really big deal.
Sana does the commercial with him, and has a good time up until he whispers to Sana that he knows her secret. Sana is confused by this as the chapter ends.

Author's Notes[]
All About Chipmunks Pt. 3: "Speaking of chipmunks, my little chipmunk, "Mame-no-suke" is my second one. My first pet chipmunk was named Banner. I named him after this old cartoon, "Banner, the Chipmunk". At least, I think I did, but I'm not sure. (If you have any idea what I'm talking about please let me know!) So, on the show, Banner, wore a cute green vest. So, I made a felt vest and forced it on my Banner! Banner hated it...
...and tore it to pieces.
I was sorry he wouldn't wear it, but I shouldn't have forced it, I guess!"
The Smoke Girl: "Here's a tale from junior high: One day at school I was in a terrible mood. So, on my way home, I picked up a firecracker at the store, thinking that blowing it up by the river would make me feel better. The problem was, I was a good girl, so I'd never bought firecrackers before and I didn't know what I was doing. (I'd only watched friends from a distance.) So, I picked up something that looked good. I went down to the river and lit it. Smoke came out. More smoke came out. Smoke kept coming out. It didn't do anything else. I found out later that it was only a smoke bomb. (Shock!) It annoyed me, bored me, and only made me feel worse afterwards. But it made a cute little memory."
