Kodocha Wiki

Chapter 26 is the 26th chapter of Kodocha, the first chapter of the sixth book in the Tankōbon Release, and the fourth chapter of the fourth book in the Kanzenban and Bunkoban releases.

Summary[]

The trio of Naozumi fans attack Sana, resulting in a small fracture. Sana decides to continue acting in the movie despite this, and continues to be her usual chipper self, until she calls Akito and learns of he and Fuka dating.

Plot[]

Starting off where the last chapter ended, Naozumi is about to attack the three fans who just attacked Sana, when Sana imagines the way the tabloids will twist the story, and stops him. He instead yells at them, and then run away. The rest of the cast and crew appear (in response to Sana's initial cry for help, and also the following ruckus). They explain the situation, and Sana plays it down until she realizes she can't stand up.

Rei takes her to doctor, and it turns out that she has a hairline fracture in her leg. Rei wants Sana to quit, but she convinces him to let her continue working (and also makes him agree to keeping the severity a secret). Naozumi meanwhile is ready to quit the movie himself, since he doesn't want Sana to get hurt. Sana and he have a long talk, which encourages him to continue working on the movie.

The next day they continue filming, trying their best to keep Sana's bandages out of frame, with occasional outtakes due to Sana putting too much pressure on her leg. Through it all though Sana perseveres, and Naozumi admires her strength. On a break, Sana thinks about Akito.

The fans of Naozumi come to apologize, and Sana tells them frankly that instead of telling her sorry, she'd rather they watch the film to see how hard she's worked. That night, Sana runs a fever and goes to bed, Naozumi comes to see her, and hears her mumbling something about Akito in her sleep.

In Tokyo, Akito and Natsumi catch some behind the scenes stuff of Mizu no Yakata that's trying to push Sana and Naozumi as a couple, and Natsumi shows Akito the article saying Sana and Naozumi are dating. At school the next day, Fuka, Tsuyoshi, and Aya are skeptically discussing the same article, when Ishida comes in and confirm that it's true (based on the lie Sana told him in Chapter 22). This changes their tune, until Akito enters the conversation and they try to down play it in hopes to not upset him. Akito meanwhile responds with apathy, to everyone's surprise.

Fuka decides to walk with him since she thinks he looks lonely, but transitions into asking if he wants to be her boyfriend, for real this time.

Back in the mountains, they're filming for Mizu no Yakata, when Asako (who remembers that Sana wanted to make a phone call before) shows Sana that she's found a place where the cell phone reception works. Sana is delighted, and immediately calls Akito. He's shocked to receive the call from her, and Sana asks what he wanted to talk to her about when she left to film. He insists it doesn't matter anymore, puts Sana on hold due to getting another call, and Sana is surprised when he comes back to learn that it was Fuka. He tells Sana that he and Fuka are going out, and then has to go. Sana hangs up, feeling lifeless. Everyone can tell somethings wrong.

Author's Notes[]

Obana's Incoherent Babbling: "Hello! It's me, Miho Obana. Thank for you sticking with us this far!"

a drawing of miho obana smiling neutrally, sitting on the ground with her hands in her lap

"Speaking of far, can you believe this is book 6? Half the time, I think "Woo-hoo! I'm past the halfway mark!" and the other half, I think, I'm already hallway done?" From this book on, the tone of Kodocha changes quite a bit. I was pretty nervous writing it! But all things change in real life, so I couldn't just keep on writing the same old thing. Thinking about how much people grow and change, it's happy/sad. fum/heartbreaking, and exciting/depressing all at once! This is "Obana-ese," and it doesn't really mean anything, so don't worry if you can't understand it. And by the way, my cat is growing up, too. She's getting to be as big as a dog!"

a drawing of miho obana's cat, saying "please read island of cats" (which is another book written by miho obana

The Allure of the Beauty Salon: "I've started getting these strange phone calls inviting me to come and try out a beauty salon. What's this all about? I don't even know these ladies who are suddenly calling me! So I just hang up. They're always telling me about their different treatments waxes, facials, weight loss counseling. Maybe I'd care if I wanted to just be beautiful! (Hee hee!) The funny thing is, they're so belligerent about it..."

a comic of a woman advertising beauty salons. in the first panel shes saying "youre filthy! you look ugly! bwahahaha!" and in the second saying "youre all hairy!! come in now!" smiling with a fierce aura

"...At least, that's what I feel like they're saying."

a drawing of miho obana saying "no thank you, much too busy" as she hangs up the phone

"So I just hang up on them! To be continued..."
