Chapter 28 is the 28th chapter of Kodocha, the third chapter of the sixth book in the Tankōbon Release, and the sixth chapter of the fourth book in the Kanzenban and Bunkoban releases.
Summary[]
The final scene of the movie is filmed, where a building is burned down. Sana struggles to exit the burning building due to her leg injury. After filming is complete, Sana returns to Tokyo, and is nervous to see her friends.
Plot[]
Sana is still struggling to stand, and the fire continues to get bigger. Outside, Rei tries to convince the director to stop filming and put out the fire, but Ono refuses. Rei tells everyone that Sana's leg is broken, not just bruised like they had agreed to say. He continues to panic until Naozumi tells him that all Sana's hard work would be squandered if he interferes with the filming of this scene.
Sana feels defeated, ready for the fire to take her, when she comes to her senses. Naozumi yells for her outside, and she finds the energy to scream back, in character. She thinks about how she's not as strong as everyone thinks she is, but she's still going to do her best.
Exiting the house, with the mansion burning behind her, the cast and crew is stunned by her appearance. Naozumi and she perform their lines, and the cameras cut. Naozumi shields Sana from some cinders, and the two are ushered to get appropriate attention (oxygen for Sana, attention for the burns for Naozumi). Sana explains what took her so long, and the director and crew watch the footage they just captured. The footage is perfect, and Director Ono shakes Sana's hand as the crew congratulate her (including the Naozumi fans who attacked her, who clap with mixed expressions at a distance).
The next day, they have a wrap party. The three Naozumi fans pass on the message that they'd like to apologize to Sana, which she agrees to (Rei supervises though). They apologize for hurting her leg, and begrudgingly admit that she puts in a lot of hard work. Sana scoffs, and tells them how in the same way they like Naozumi, Sana really likes someone, but he's going out with her friend. One of the girls sympathizes, and Sana reiterates that they've gotta watch the movie, which they agree to. Naozumi looks on, theorizing that they'll become fans of Sana's in time.
Finally back in Tokyo, Sana needs to stay in the hospital for several days due to her broken leg. When it heals, they have some scenes to film for the movie, this time on a set. Naozumi asks if she's talked with her friends, and she tells him she hasn't.
When she does go back to school, it's been four months since she saw everyone. She's nervous about it, but everything is normal between she and Fuka (which is a relief). She starts talking to everyone else, when Akito, who to her surprise has grown five centimeters (two inches) in the four months she hasn't seen him. He's casual, and pesters her for a souvenir (which she doesn't have, given they were in the mountains). Fuka and he have some idle talk, which makes Sana feel weird, and retreat to the bathroom, where she thinks about how school is much harder than work.
