Chapter 29 is the 29th chapter of Kodocha, the fourth chapter of the sixth book in the Tankōbon Release, and the seventh chapter of the fourth book in the Kanzenban and Bunkoban releases.
Summary[]
Sana returns to school, and feels weird about Fuka and Akito dating. This is made worse when she learns they all believed the rumors that she and Naozumi were dating.
Plot[]
Sana goes to class, and Fuka reveals she's been taking detailed notes for Sana while she was gone. The classmates talk about how Fuka is a great student, great in gymnastics, and even has a great boyfriend (the last making Sana uncomfortable). At lunch Sana asks Fuka about she and Akito, but Fuka avoids talking about their relationship. Sana wonders why.
Sana is told she has to deliver a flower pot, but it breaks in the hallway when her homeroom teacher bumps into her. Akito happens to be in the hallway, and is called to help her clean it up. Sana is shocked, but they have a pretty normal conversation until Akito comments on being able to tell Sana's wearing a bra. Akito changes the conversation by asking Sana to return a book to Fuka, but does this by calling Sana by her first name for the first time (he's been politely calling her Kurata up until now). Sana is surprised, and Akito brushes it off by saying that Fuka calls her Sana, so why shouldn't he. Sana angrily says he should never call her by her first name again and leaves.
Sana gives Fuka the book Akito passed onto her, and Sana uses it as an in to ask if she and Akito have kissed yet, where Fuka says no (to Sana's surprise). Sana comes to gymnastics after school, and everyone is impressed by Fuka's athletic prowess (moreso when Fuka says her mom went to the Olympics). Sana, Akito, Fuka, Tsuyoshi, and Aya decide to get something to eat after school. Tsuyoshi tells Sana that Akito and Fuka are dating, and Sana tells him she already knows. Internally, Tsuyoshi thinks about how Akito has seemed lonely ever since he started going out with Fuka. It transitions to a flashback of Akito telling Tsuyoshi about how Fuka confessed, where Akito is very apathetic about the whole thing, and it makes Tsuyoshi sad, since he's felt there's something special between Akito and Sana.
The group is now getting food, and Fuka complains about how Akito hasn't fully buttoned up his shirt. Akito unbuttons his entire shirt in response, and Sana is off-put by Fuka using the pet name "Aki" for Akito. The group have a laugh though. Sana mentions she feels weird being the only one not in a couple, and they say that she can't help that her boyfriend goes to another school. Sana is shocked. The group explain that they know she's dating Naozumi, because of all the rumors in magazines and such, as well as Ishida confirming. Sana is hurt by the fact they'd believe such things. Sana can tell she's going to start crying, so decides to leave. Everyone tries to stop her, but she runs off. Without hesitation, Akito runs after her (to Fuka's dismay), quickly catching up. He tries to talk to her, but again calls her by her first name, causing Sana to slap him. Sana continues running, while Akito looks on.

Author's Notes[]
Hello, I'm back!: "So how did you like the "Let Your Friends Bury You Alive!" segments? I thought it would be fun to have some of my friends share with you what they think of me. I guess I'm a pretty strange woman! (Hee-hee!) I hope you enjoy all the little bonus comics and stuff! Well, back to Kodocha. Sana has finally awakened to love! Hee-hee! Usually, when I write serious material, I try to lighten it up a little. But I guess I can't really do that with something as serious as true love. (Especially when I get the impression that what's going on between Sana and Akito is what's really most important to Kodocha's readers, and that they're really affected by it...) So when I'm writing about things like unrequited love, I always think, "I shouldn't poke fun at this, it's serious!" But actually, now that I think about it... When I read through this volume. over again, I think I'm still kinda poking fun! (Hee-hee!) Don't worry, I'll be taking it more seriously starting in volume 7. When I first started volume 7, the first draft had a lot of jokes in it. A lot! But when I went to re-read it, I decided I wanted to make things much more serious, so I totally rewrote it. I was. pretty hesitant about this at first... But now I'm glad I did it!"
More from Me: "Lately, a lot of readers have been getting mad at Sana, Akito, or Fuka over what's been happening in Kodocha... To Sana, they say: "Took you long enough to figure out you loved him!" To Akito: "What a fickle boy!" To Fuka: "How dare you try and steal Akito away from Sana." (This is the most common response.) But almost everyone has good things to say about Naozumi."
"But the funny thing is, what most people have to: say is, "I feel so bad for Sana, Akito and Fuka! Please hurry and work things out for them!" You guys are all so nice! I thought you were going to blame me all their problems! I'm touched! I'm such a bad person. (Hee-hee!) When I try to think about who the real villain in this triangle is... well, I don't think it's any of them. If you want to blame someone for the predicament they're in, you're gonna have to blame me!"
Trivia[]
- This chapter was adapted into You Can’t Believe the Rumors.
- In the TokyoPop English translation of the manga, instead of Akito calling Sana by her first name for the first time, he just calls her "girl", which Sana perceives as rude.
- This was changed because in localizing, Akito has been calling her "Sana" since the beginning of the series (as opposed to calling by her last name, until this chapter).
