Chapter 3 is the 3rd chapter of Kodocha, and the third chapter of the first book.
Summary[]
Sana gets the blackmail on Akito (in the form of an embarrassing photo) with the help of Tsuyoshi, which means he won't cause chaos in their class anymore! However in the process, Sana learned of Akito's bad home-life, and now feels sorry for him.
Plot[]
Sana and Tsuyoshi arrive at Akito's house to capture an embarrassing photo that they can use as blackmail. Upon getting there though, they overhear Akito being yelled at by his sister who calls him a "demon child" (shocking Sana). Akito punches a lightbulb out in anger, making his hand bleed (shocking Sana more). Tsuyoshi explains that it's always like this, and includes that Akito's dad doesn't talk to him, just giving him money for dinner (where Akito gets fast food). Sana feels sorry for him, but still decides to go through with the blackmail plan. They follow Akito to the park, where Tsuyoshi pulls down his pants, and Sana gets a picture. Before Akito can grab it from them, Rei convenes with the group and takes it for safe keeping. Sana then tells Akito he can get the photo if he gives her the photo of the teachers he's been using to blackmail them and he agrees. They head back to his house so he can give them the photo, and again, his sister continues yelling at him, and his dad arrives home, not saying a word to Akito. Sana leaves, with the photo in hand, but feels disturbed and sorry for Akito. The next day at school, Akito tells the students who have been going along with causing chaos that he's quitting. Sana then prompts him to apologize to the students he's hurt (including Mami), and he does. Sana gives the blackmail photo Akito had to the teachers, and they have their first normal day at class. At home that night, Sana is happy about her home life, and is in turn feels sorry Akito doesn't have the same luxury. The next day at school, to Sana's surprise, the kids are acting up again, this time with Gomi as their ringleader. The chapter ends on a suspenseful note of Akito and Gomi starting to fight.

About Gertie: "I have a lot of plots filed away. I spent a lot of time working out the story for this series, which made it easy for me to actually sit down and write it. (But it still takes 17 days to finish each installment.) Anyway, the main character's name in one of my favorite plots that I haven't worked on yet is Gertie. I think it's a pretty name and I like it. I don't watch too many movies, but when I saw E.T. in elementary school, I really liked the main character Elliot's sister, Gertie. She is what I remember when I think about E.T. I never liked my own name, so maybe I think too much about names. The story of Gertie is not gonna be as popular as Kodocha, so I'm not sure when I'm going to draw it -- sometime, somewhere... Hee-hee."
About Hayama: "Hayama is popular with all of you - as popular as Sana. I'm surprised. I was gonna try and make him popular gradually, but he was popular right off the bat. IF he had a face like a monster, he might not have been... I kinda wanted to do that. Hee-hee. He's pretty twisted, like me, but really I based his character on a friend of mine. He's Japanese, but he looks foreign and has funny hair. Funny in a cute way, I mean. (Don't get mad.) When the wind blows, his hair moves like some kind of an animal. I wish I could show that to you guys!"

Part II: "So, like I was saying, Hayama's kind-of twisted like me -- but I'm like Sana, too, of course. We're both like, "Don't be like that! Let's enjoy life!" (Ha!) I think maybe we all have opposite sides to our natures. (Maybe I have a dual personality.) So both Hayama's and Sana's opinions are my opinion. But I favor Sana... I mean, I wanna take the good parts from both of them. I want both characters to make up for each other's weaknesses, and that will strengthen their spiritual relationship. I think it's too early for them to get physical though... (ha!) But I may do it anyway!"
