Chapter 31 is the 31st chapter of Kodocha, the first chapter of the seventh book in the Tankōbon Release, and the second chapter of the fifth book in the Kanzenban and Bunkoban releases.
Summary[]
Akito directly asks Sana how she feels about him, admitting that he loves her. Sana says she loves him too, but backpedals when she learns Fuka heard the whole thing. To avoid the stress of all this, Sana decides to forget about Akito, and focus on her acting career.
Plot[]
Sana and Akito both confront each other on how the other feels. Sana tells Akito that Naozumi is convinced Akito likes her, and continues to explain how Naozumi confessed his feelings to her, but she turned him down, because she loves Akito, not Naozumi. Akito is mad that she's only telling him this now, and is mad she hadn't picked up that he liked her before now. He confesses that he loves her too, and Sana gets mad that he hadn't told her earlier. They bicker, and Sana realizes Fuka heard the whole thing.
Sana tries to make Fuka feel better by lying and saying she doesn't feel that way about Akito anymore, that it's in the past. Akito is present for the whole thing. Sana feels horrible, and goes home.
At home, she tells Rei that she'd like to accept every job offer she's been given, and in doing so become a full time actress. She leaves the Komawari theater, and signs with a big talent agency "Seito Talent". Sana's family meets with the principal to arrange things in a way she can manage. On the way out of the meeting, she runs into Tsuyoshi, whom she tells she'll be missing a lot of school. Tsuyoshi passes the news onto Akito, and Aya passes the news onto Fuka. Maeda tells Naozumi how Sana has signed to a new agency, he worries he caused it, but decides not to call her since she's not speaking to him.
Some time later, Akito finds Sana waiting for him outside his house after karate practice. Sana apologizes for the day of the double confession, and tells him this is goodbye. He tells her that he can't hurt Fuka, and when she tries to leave, he hugs her. Sana tears up, says goodbye, and leaves. When she's far enough away, she starts crying.
With the help of Seito Talent, she works constantly. Radio shows, commercials, a TV series and more. Her reputation as a child actress is shed in place of being a major star.
At Jinbou Junior High, Mr. Sengoku hits Akito (who'd fallen asleep in class) hard enough with a book that it makes Tsuyoshi cringe. After the two exchange a few mean lines, Akito leaves the class. On the way home, Aya points out a giant billboard with Sana on it. Tsuyoshi, Fuka, and Aya are all impressed, but Akito wants to get off the subject. The expression scares Tsuyoshi, since it reminds him of how Akito used to be before he met Sana.
Fuka changes the subject by giving Akito a birthday present, since his birthday is tomorrow. Akito idly asks when Fuka's birthday is, where she responds that it's on Christmas Eve. Akito drops the gift she gave him in shock that it lands on the same day as his and Sana's middle birthday.

Author's Notes[]
Obana's Incoherent Babbling: "Hello! It's me, Miho Obana!"
"Thanks so much for all your support! Thanks to you, we've made it to volume 7!! What does the number 7 make you think of? I can think of... The Seven Gods of Good Luck... The Festival of the Weaver Star on July 7th...and Ultraseven... (Is that the best I can do?) Actually, what the number 7 makes me think of is Lucky Seven Pachinko! Although, I guess that's not something a girls' comic creator should be admitting, is it? anyway...here we are at volume 7 already! I hope you like it. I'm not totally happy with it, all I can see are the But mistakes... Here's my biggest mistake:"
"Seriously though, I hardly ever play pachinko anymore. I used to work at a pachinko parlor and play all the time though! And now...I'm out of things to say... (hee hee)"
I know what to talk about!: "I'll tell you about the dog I just got! 🐶 She's a Labrador Retriever. If you ever see the Japanese edition of this volume, that's her on the inside back cover! Isn't she cute? I've had dogs before, so I know it's a lot of work. But I've been really wanting to for ages... get a dog again I've been thinking about it seriously for two whole years! The biggest difference this time is that I've never owned a large dog before (just small and mid-sized ones). There's a lot to learn about handling a dog like her! But I get help from the people at the pet store and my vet, so I'm having a pretty good time taking care of her. I decided to name her Sana. But all friends felt weird my calling "Sana" for some reason, so they all call her "Sana-chan." Isn't that funny? I mean, what's the big deal? To me, it sounds weird...when I add "-chan" to "Sana" it just sounds funny, like "Agnes-chan" or some- thing, you know? It's just wrong... (hee hee)"
