Summary[]
Sana can no longer recognize Akito, which freaks him out. Sana decides things would be easier if she reciprocated Naozumi's feelings, Naozumi is insulted by this - and he helps her remember Akito. Sana recognizes that somethings wrong with her.
Plot[]
Sana fully doesn't recognize Akito, who is freaked out by this. Rei and Misako intervene in attempt to calm both kids down. Akito feels like they're being too gentle with Sana, and Misako yells that he doesn't know whats best for Sana. After a breath, Misako tells him more calmly that it's understandable he'd be freaked out - but the best they can do is be patient and supportive.
Akito heads to karate, thinking about how it's hard to be patient with the move getting closer and closer. He thinks about Naozumi would do a better job being patient and supportive, and gets more upset.
The next day, Naozumi visits and Misako tells him about how Sana's forgotten Akito - which disturbs him. Sana has a fun time hanging out with Naozumi, playing with Maro and talking about his trip to Egypt. She admits to him that she's been thinking about how she'd be happier if she was with him, how she should have reciprocated his feelings when he confessed to her on the set of Mizu no Yakata. Naozumi is stunned, reaches out to her, and is struck by all his memories of Sana. He cries, telling her he does truly love her and always will, but feels betrayed by this confession. She's not saying this out of a true love, she's saying it out of ease. He reminds her of Akito, bringing up the theme park tickets she was happy to win so she could go with him, and she cries, finally remembering him. Naozumi decides it's time to leave, and Sana apologizes to him for everything, with him just telling her he wants to see her smile next time he comes over.
At karate, Akito is finally able to participate more, but gets upset when he struggles to adjust to sparring with his hand paralyzed. He thinks of how he can't even enjoy that. He thinks about before, when he felt bad, Sana's smile would make him feel like he could keep going - but that's gone right now. Akito arrives to visit Sana just as Naozumi is leaving teary eyed.
Naozumi yells at Akito for being late, and Akito asks what happened (noticing that he was crying), with Naozumi telling him to ask Misako (who alongside Maeda, was spying on the early part of their conversation). Naozumi then gives Akito some counseling books, in hopes they'd help Akito help Sana. Naozumi tells Akito about his trip, and tells him he believes Akito is the only one who can help Sana in this situation.
Before he leaves, Naozumi makes a comment about the moles on Sana's butt to freak Akito out. He leaves feeling like he one up-ed Akito - until Maeda clarifies to Akito that Naozumi knows because of a baby photo. Naozumi tells Maeda that his laughing when he was eavesdropping made him feel better in the situation, and thanks him.
When Akito sees Sana, she's crying, but she recognizes him - so he's relieved. Sana tells him she feels terrible for hurting Naozumi's feelings, and that she thinks there's something wrong with her. Akito tells her Naozumi is strong and will get over it, hugs her tight. Akito asks what Sana would wish for, and she wishes for his hand to be better, for them to use the theme park tickets, and to see Fuka and everyone. She tells him she felt before like she could get through anything when he's by her side, and that when he told her about his move - it made everything feel hopeless. Akito thinks about how much pain he put her through, and vows to not leave her side. She questions the logistics, but he tells her not to worry - to just focus on getting better. She doesn't understand what's wrong with her, and keeps crying. They embrace.
Misako muses about this development (that Sana is realizing somethings wrong with her), she's concerned, but speaks to how the only thing she can put her trust in is Akito and Sana.

Author's Notes[]
"Now that Kodocha is ending, there's so much I want to say... so much, in fact, that I end up with nothing to say. It's just impossible to express how I'm feeling. Thank you all so much, and I hope to see you again soon! What else can I say, really? I'm not clever enough to think of anything else. So, I've decided to use this space to introduce the people that helped make Kodocha happen: my assistants! So, sidebars are now going to be the: Special Thanks CORNER! Without these people, Kodocha would never have gotten finished. Seriously! But I also have to mention the countless other people who have helped make this all happen: First of readers! This means you! Also, all my editors! The 'animators who made the TV series happen! The bookstore owners who sold my books! The printers who printed them... the postal workers who shipped them...the people who made merchandise...the list goes on and on. But my assistants -- they're the people who stood beside me in our long 4-year battle to bring Kodocha to all of you, and to them I am deeply grateful. Instead of just writing about them, I asked them all to name their favorite character and include a drawing and comments... So, coming up next is the SPECIAL THANKS CORNER!"
SPECIAL THANKS CORNER 1! - Rie Seki (helps with everything!): "Rie's been helping out since the characters started junior high. And she's been a friend of mine for years. Originally, she was just going to help out for few days, but she ended up pulling 12-13 all-nighters at my house every month! She works on backgrounds, shading, and even inking on some of the characters (I'm not so good at that). She handles a lot of important jobs! Rie, thank you so much!"
"It was fun inking in Fuka's silky smooth hair. But MARIKO's hair was a real pain..."
"Congratulations, Miho! You know, you work too hard. You need to loosen up more! Let's go out and have some fun!"
Trivia[]
