Chapter 4 is the 4th chapter of Deep Clear, a Kodocha spin-off manga that crosses over Kodocha, and Honey Bitter. In it, the characters of Kodocha are in their 20s.
Summary[]
Two months have passed, Shuri notices somethings wrong with the baby when Sana and she have lunch. This ends up leading to Sana delivering earlier than expected. Shuri is hailed as a life saver, and Sana and Akito start living together again, with them naming their daughter Sari.
Plot[]
Shuri reports her findings to Rei (that Akito hasn't been unfaithful to Sana), and he's reassured - though Shuri can tell he already was pretty certain this was the case. After that, months pass with Shuri not seeing Sana or anybody, though she sees Sana publicly announces her pregnancy on television, and she starts dating Yohta.
The next time she sees Sana is two months later, when Shuri visits her at her house to give her opinion on a script Sana's been given for her drama detective acting role. Shuri gives her perspective, and they chit chat (with Sana noticing Shuri seems different, going on to correctly guess that she started going out with Yohta). All is well, until suddenly Shuri feels the presence of the baby get weaker. She tells Sana she needs to go to a hospital immediately, and confides in her about her mind reading abilities. Sana is initially so star struck by it that she doesn't pay attention to the gravity of what Shuri is saying, but she quickly changes her tune and they head to the hospital.
Tensions are high, and it's learned that the umbilical cord had wrapped around the baby's neck. Because of Shuri noticing something was wrong, the doctor is able to move the baby to make it looser. As Sana explains this to Shuri, her water breaks. Sana tells Shuri to call her mom, and leaves the decision of if she should tell Akito up to Shuri.
Shuri does decide to tell Akito (who is so shocked he drops the phone), and he's excused from work. Sana and Shuri talk, with Sana having a hard time with contractions, though she's happy to have Shuri to hang out with (noting that all her other friends are far away at the moment). Shuri goes to check on who's arrives, only to find Misako is being stopped by hospital staff due to being unallowed to take Maro (the third) into the delivery room (even with her insistence that he's clean). While that gets sorted out, she spots Akito sulking outside.
Shuri is relieved Akito doesn't recognize her as the girl who spied on him a few months before. He thanks her for calling him, but decides to go back to work. Shuri stops him, and gets a glimpse into his thoughts, which are all negative thoughts about how Sana and the baby will die. Knowing this, Shuri reassures Akito that Sana's doing just fine. With that, Akito gets the nerve to go into the hospital, but the vibe is immediately tense as they can hear Sana's noises of discomfort.
Several hours pass with Shuri, Akito, and Rei in the waiting room listening in to the play by plays. Things get tense with the baby's heart rate dropping, and Sana calls out to Akito (who tries to reply, but is too far away). Shuri hears Akito's inner thoughts as he pleads for her to survive - which has such intense feelings that it physically blows her back.
The tension is cut when the baby is born, and Sana immediately bursts out laughing (the doctor saying that's the first time he'd ever seen that). Sana says the baby looks like Akito, and everyone is so relieved. Akito goes to meet Sana finally, and she asks where Shuri is - with Akito telling her she left. Sana is grateful for Shuri - believing she saved the baby's life. Shuri meanwhile thinks about how hard childbirth is, and how in spite of having a strained relationship with her mom - she once fought in order to bring Shuri into the world.
Sometime later, Shuri passes on the good news to Yohta that she got an email from Sana saying that the baby only needed to be in an incubator for two days, and has been healthy and energetic since.
A few days after that, Shuri is invited to a party at Sana's house celebrating the baby, and celebrating Shuri as a life saver. Sana explains they haven't come up with a name yet for the baby, with all her friends (Fuka, Tsuyoshi, and Aya) taking the opportunity to give suggestions (though none are well received). Akito enters in with the baby in tow, refusing to change a diaper - and passing on the duty to Sana.
Sana and Shuri have a private conversation where Sana asks Shuri what her real name is - having deduced that the name she'd previously given her (Tamako) was an alias. Shuri confirms this, and tells her her real name, and gives her her business card. Shuri thinks of the beauty of relationships as she sees Sana and Akito, and a few days later gets an email from Sana confirming they decided to name their daughter Sari.
