Chapter 5 (sometimes called Misty Blue) is the 5th chapter of Deep Clear, a Kodocha spin-off manga that crosses over Kodocha, and Honey Bitter. In it, the characters of Kodocha are in their 20s.
Summary[]
Sana convinces Shuri to stand-in and appear on a television program when someone calls in sick. Shuri ends up meeting Naozumi Kamura, and reading his aura on his request.
Plot[]
Yohta asks Shuri if she's heard from Sana much, and she explains she's been getting periodic emails about how Sari is doing. They talk about how Sana is meant to appear on a special program, and Shuri gets a phone call... from Sana! Asking if they can meet up.
Shuri is surprised to find the address Sana provided is a TV station, and Rei brings her inside. It turns out that a guest that was meant to be on the special program called out sick, so Sana wants Shuri to take her place. Shuri initially resists, but is convinced.
Still, Shuri worries. She's playing the role of a fortune teller, but can tell the other so called experts are phonies. As she waits in a hall, someone bumps into her, who she recognizes as Naozumi Kamura. Rei notices him (surprised he's here, and not in the US. Which Naozumi explains is because he's only in for a few days to do an interview), and calls Sana over, Shuri meanwhile is star struck by how beautiful he is.
Sana and Naozumi start to catch up with him congratulating her on becoming a mother, and Shuri can immediately tell Naozumi has feelings for her - but she remembers seeing tabloid stories a year ago about Naozumi living with a man. Shuri can hear all the passerbys also wondering about the rumors, but everyone is too timid to say anything... until Sana comes right out and asks! He confirms that he lives with his boyfriend in New York, and he says he's happy when Sana asks.
Sana introduces Naozumi to Shuri, just before Sana gets called to do something. Shuri can hear Naozumi's thoughts, happy that he was able to see Sana, and that she hasn't changed. With Sana gone, and Naozumi aware Shuri is playing the role of a fortune teller on the program, he asks if she can read his fortune. She agrees, and can tell that Naozumi will always love Sana in spite of things not working out between them, and he had a hard time with relationships because of that, up until meeting his now boyfriend. Shuri tells him she can tell he's been independent since childhood, and that he's a very strong person (which he's happy to hear, having never heard it before). He thanks Shuri for the reading, and leaves with his manager.
Filming the program goes well, with Sana acting silly and Shuri just staying quiet and nodding. On the car ride home, Sana asks Shuri what she thought of Naozumi - if she believes he's truly happy. Shuri hesitates, but affirms that he is - which reassures Sana. In an internal monologue, Shuri thinks of how she'd never admit it to anyone, but there is a sadness lurking within him.
