Chapter 6 is the 6th chapter of Kodocha, and the first chapter of the second book.
Summary[]
Akito sees some positive changes in his family thanks to Sana. Meanwhile after an interview with Asako Kurumi, Sana realizes there's something going on between she and Sana's manager Rei.
Plot[]
Starting exactly where chapter 5 left off, Akito's dad thanks Sana, and she hopes that this is the start of a positive change as she leaves. Meanwhile, Akito's dad tells Akito that he saw Sana's movie, it made him think about things, and that he's going to be home earlier from work from now on, and that they'll eat dinner together as a family. After he leaves, Akito thinks about how that was the most his dad has ever spoken to him. Akito ends up missing three days of school being sick, during which he watches the movie Sana was in. He recognizes the dialogue from when Sana talked to him in the park, her rewinds and rewatches scenes with Sana.
Arriving back at school, Sana gives Akito the blackmail photo she had of him, saying she doesn't need it anymore. On the way home, Tsuyoshi and Akito talk about Sana, with Akito remarking that they're "rivals" after Tsuyoshi admits he has a crush on Sana (though Tsuyoshi didn't hear what Akito said clearly, so he has plausible deniability).
Sana the next day has her interview with Asako Kurumi, again she asks about Sana's manager, where this time he's waiting in the car. During the interview, Asako continues to push Sana about Rei, and Sana shares that he was homeless before he became her manager, and that he had become homeless after being dumped. Sana arrives at the car, but Rei isn't there, he's instead getting something from a vending machine, and Asako spots him. She calls out to him using his first name, and as she approaches, he tries to get away from her. Sana meanwhile is confused at where Rei is, and starts piecing together that it's weird that Asako has continually asked questions about Rei. As Sana realizes Asako is "after" Rei, Asako catches up with him. Asako confronts him with the fact she knows he's been avoiding her, but Rei acts oblivious. She demands he takes his glasses off, but refuses, citing that Sana told him to not take them off and that she's all that matters to him, so he heeds that rule.
At seemingly the same time, Tsuyoshi and Akito are hanging out, talking about what Akito had said at school the day before. Akito remarks that if Tsuyoshi has to worry about anyone, it's "that guy with the sunglasses".
Back with Rei and Asako, Rei lets a response slip that makes his facade of not knowing who she is fall. Sana is searching for Rei, and just as she finds them, Asako rips Rei's sunglasses off.

Author's Notes[]
Obana's Incoherent Babbling "Hello! It's me, Obana! And here is book 2 of Kodocha. I'm super busy these days, thanks to you guys! I didn't know a comic book artist could be so busy! Normally, I'm really lazy – I always had trouble finishing things I started. But because of you, I can keep doing this hard job! Thanks, fans! And I want you to know, I really do read all your mail. I got a lot of letters, so I can't reply to them all. (I'm sorry!) But they're very important to me as the feedback from my work. Thanks for your support! I'll keep doing my best, ok?"
About the Anime "A Kodocha animated video will soon be released in Japan. (In fact, it'll be out when this book is published.) To be honest, I wasn't interested in animation at first. But once we started doing real work on it – designing the characters, picking voice actors – I got really into it. Animation is actually a lot of fun! Sometimes people ask me not to animate my comics because it'll be different from the image they have in their head – but, it's supposed to be different! The pictures you're used to seeing on paper move, and the characters talk – there's music and sound and it's a whole different medium. I'm interested in seeing how it turns out. But I appreciate that you all love the original too – thanks! (To be continued.)"
Making the Video "So, the Kodocha video has a lot of funny lines – even more than the original. I cracked up when I saw the finished script! I'm sure you'll love it, too. Check it out if you get the chance! The main voice talents are:
Sana: Chisa Yokoyama. Akito: Megumi Ogata. Tsuyoshi: Minami Takeyama. Rei: Masami Kikuchi.
I didn't actually know who they were, but they're all well-known voice actors. (Thank you, guys!) They had the recording three days ago, but I couldn't go, because I was so close to my deadline! Man. But as I worked, I thought about how my characters were being given life at that moment, and it made me happy. (To be continued.)"
